Works of love by the Rainbow Children and siblings

At Club Rainbow, we encourage our children to express themselves and their talents in a variety of ways. One of these avenues is through art. Many volunteers have selflessly given their time and expertise to guide the children in producing paintings that we are all proud of. Here is just a small sampling of their works.

GIRL IN THE MIRROR::    Painted by a 14-year-old girl who suffers from Central Hypotonia Developmental Delay. Affecting usually the Central Nervous System, this condition generally causes a delay in a child’s physical, cognitive, behavioural, emotional, or social development. This enchanting piece is a self-portrait.

FLORAL EXPRESS::    Painted by a 10-year-old girl who suffers from Thalassaemia Major – a genetic blood disorder in which children require frequent blood transfusions. This painting is centered on a giant flower with nature influences in the background.

THE PIRATE::    This fantasy painting was done by a six-year-old girl who suffers from Osteogenic Imperfecta commonly known as the "brittle bone" disorder -- a genetic disorder characterised by bones that break easily, often from little or no apparent cause. The painting depicts a pirate on his ship heading into a storm. A little blue bird shrouded in mist rests on a mountain peak as it is lost. This is the artist’s very first oil painting.

IMAGINATION::    This colourful abstract piece was painted by an 11-year-old girl. She suffers from Central Hypotonia Developmental Delay. Affecting usually the Central Nervous System, this condition generally causes a delay in a child’s physical, cognitive, behavioural, emotional, or social development.

THE EMERALD HILLS::    This scenic view of forested hills was done by an eight year old boy who suffers from Nephrotic Syndrome – a disorder of the kidneys. The artist loves to draw and has won a number of competitions including Club Rainbow’s Talent Development Fund awards.

FREEDOM::    This surreal work depicting a sunrise at sea was done by an 18-year-old youth who is wheelchair-bound and suffers from chronic renal failure.

DELICATE BLOOMS::    Painted by a seven-year-old girl who suffers from Thalassaemia Major. She loves flowers and was thrilled to learn the skills of painting these delicate blooms. And just like flowers, children too bloom vibrantly with tender love and care!

MORNING BUTTERFLIES::    Painted by an eight-year-old girl who suffers from Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) which is a chronic autoimmune disease. Morning Butterflies depicts the innocence of a brand new day and also the inherent purity of childhood.

JUST PEOPLE::    An abstract composition, this was done by a 10-year-old boy, the brother of a Rainbow Child. The painting represents the uniqueness of human form.

REFLECTION OF BOXES::    Painted by an 11-year-old boy who suffers from Thalassaemia Major – a genetic blood disorder. The squares represent people. Like these squares, each person is different and should be appreciated as a unique individual despite his or her different looks and health problems.

Club Rainbow would like to thank Jyune for sharing her artistic expertise with our Rainbow Children to produce the oil paintings above. Our gratitude also goes out to Noor, Khairul and the members of the Singapore Women's Cycling Team (SWCT) who are raising funds for us through  Hearts on Wheels. We would like to thank them all for helping out in this painting workshop on Nov 18 2006 :-)
