Get Involved! And make a real difference in the lives of our precious children

Volunteers play a key role in many of our activities. By stepping forward to help, volunteers help us to increase the number of programmes and activities we offer. Volunteers also contribute their unique skills, insights and ideas.

Here are some of the options available for volunteers:

Become a Befriender!
Befrienders act as Big Brothers or Big Sisters to some of our Rainbow children. You become a mentor, a friend and a confidant to a child who is facing tremendous challenges in life trying to cope with a chronic illness. The minimum age for befriender is 21 and commitment is a minimum of two years.

Teach!
Many children at Club Rainbow miss lessons because they require treatment in hospital. Others tend to fall ill more often than their classmates. To help these children catch up with the lessons they had missed, we need volunteer tutors to help them. The minimum age for volunteer tutors is 21. You would need to commit to teaching for one academic year with a minimum of 1.5 hours of tutoring a week.

Helping Hands (Ad Hoc Volunteering)
Becoming a Befriender or a tutor requires a significant commitment over a period of time. We realise that in today’s world, not everyone has much time to spare. Perhaps signing up as a volunteer for ad-hoc events or joining a committee may be more appropriate for you. These volunteers help us look after the kids during seminars for parents. They can also support us in running workshops or events.

Committees
Committees support the staff and help to execute Club Rainbow's programmes. As a committee member, you are required to attend meetings with the staff a few times a year. The commitment level is slightly more than an ad-hoc volunteer but less than that of a befriender or tutor.

Youth Committee -  You will help support and help to run programmes specially catered to our Rainbow youths aged 13 to 20.
Camp Rainbow Committee - You will help in organising our annual camp in June. Preparation work usually starts in January.
Fundraising Committee - You will assist Club Rainbow in planning strategic activities aimed at raising awareness of Club Rainbow and our services and also assist in devising unique fundraising opportunities.
Specialist Volunteers - If you are good in IT, auditing and accounts, computer skills, music, drama, dance, cooking, arts & crafts, writing and graphic design or if you possess other professional skills, we would like to hear from you.
Programme Committee -
You will be involved in two annually-run events "Annual Party" and "Caregivers Appreciation Day" and other ad-hoc events which require manpower on the actual day.

Young Ambassador’s Programme

Students too can play an important role in fundraising and awareness building. Some schools have shouldered major projects for Club Rainbow. Please click here for some guidelines and a look at previous projects undertaken by students.

Take the Rainbow Challenge
In September 2005, Club Rainbow launched the Rainbow Challenge Fund a special project aimed at raising funds and heightening awareness of Club Rainbow and the plight of our Rainbow Children through a varierty of physiocal challenges.

Send a wish
Even if you cannot volunteer your time, you can still help to make a difference by leaving behind some words of encouragement for our children and their families. Read what others have written and add your own thoughts.

What Motivates You to Help?
Voices of some of our Volunteers:

“I heard of Club Rainbow from publicity by Class 95. I have, over the years, befriended many kids who are now teens and young adults. What keeps me going is definitely the company of kids and youths, seeing the joy on their faces and strong support from my fellow Befrienders. It’s not just giving from my side. I’ve made many friends with the children and their families over the years I believe I have received far more than I have given.” - P.L. Foo, a Secondary School Teacher

"The magic of Camp Sunshine began back in 1991 when I was pulled into the organising committee for the first Camp. Every year since then, it feels like coming home to lots of familiar faces and a few new ones too.Did you know that one of the kids in my group in the first camp is now a Youth Committee Member! How time flies when you're having fun! That's what I call magic. And this is the magic that makes me come back every time. I want to thank every kid who has brought a smile to my face all these years." - Leslie Lee, an assistant director

“I am very fortunate and blessed to have my health while the kids at Club Rainbow are fighting for their lives.” - Terry Walsh, 39, who helped Club Rainbow raise funds while competing in the Ironman Triathlon World Championship in Hawaii in October 2005

“The kids are full of life! I even remembered some of the Befrienders being ex-campers. I want to come back every year [to host]. I really got back more than what they got from me” - Media Corp actor Gurmit Singh who has volunteered for nine years to hosted the opening ceremonies of Camp Rainbow
